BIOGRAPHY ENGLISH

The Czech DJ and producer Michael Burian is one of the best-known artists in the modern music scene in the Czech Republic and among the hottest DJs in Central Europe. He fills venues such as the O2 Arena in Prague, plays before crowds of hundreds of thousands at international festivals and regularly tours Europe, the USA, Latin America and Asia.
As founding head of Bohemian Recordings, Michael Burian fosters young talents and releases his own projects. In 2012 his hit „Beautiful Love“ reached No. 1 in the Czech radio charts and his radio show „Dance EXXtravaganza“, broadcast by the Czech Republic’s largest radio station, Radio Evropa 2, is heard by fans around the world.
In 2011 Michael Burian teamed up with another Burian, Robert, and their production alliance Burian & Burian has since been producing international hit tracks. Michael Burian also pursues other music projects and since 2010 has played live sell-out concerts with a symphony orchestra at venues that include the New World Center in Miami. Yet his name extends beyond the music scene: from 2005 to 2010 he was brand ambassador for the Diesel fashion label in the Czech and Slovak Republics. In 2003 the illustrious Czech Academy of Popular Music invited him to serve on the jury of the Andel Awards, a role in which he applied his artistic knowledge for several years. He is a regular guest on the Czech music channel Ocko-TV and on MTV, writes columns for a range of music magazines and has received a string of accolades for his musical accomplishments. Beyond the world of music he is part of a campaign in favour of more democracy and larger election turnouts in the Czech Republic; he and Vaclav Havel and a host of other well-known Czech personalities are involved in the antikomunismus.cz platform.

Commenting on his passion, artist Michael Burian says: „Ever since I can remember, music has always been a special part of my life. At my concerts, especially through the interaction with my audience, I’m always overwhelmed by the sheer power that connects us. I’m happy and thankful that I have the opportunity to really live my profession and I couldn’t imagine ever doing anything else. The energy that comes out of musical creativity is just indescribable.“

Beyond his work as resident DJ in legendary Prague clubs, headlining at festivals and events around the world and a consistent stream of new tracks, there have been other milestones in the career of DJ and producer Michael Burian:

In 2011 he published with singer Victoria the summer hit „Secret“. Burian & Burian, his partnership with Robert Burian (no family relation), was founded in the same year.

Since 2010 he has been expanding his musical horizons, appearing live with a symphony orchestra. The performances to capacity crowds at the New World Center in Miami Beach are unforgettable, frisson-filled experiences. (link to http://youtu.be/k0gUPAb2c0A )

In 2009 Michael Burian played his hit „Vltava“ in front of a live 20,000-strong audience in Prague’s O2 Arena. The YouTube clip of this performance has since been viewed over 500,000 times. (link to http://youtu.be/olaoWBZI5bI )

In 2008 he toured India and the USA and played at the Amnesia during the Ibiza season. In the same year „Vltava“ was released on Bohemian Recordings.

In 2007 he set up his Prague-based label, Bohemian Recordings, publishes his own tracks, „Michael Burian – the DVD“, and became producer to Jean Luc and other up-and-coming talents. That year also saw the release of Michael Burian’s „The First Chapter“ EP.

In 2006 Michael Burian mounted his own mega show, „Michael Burian and Friends“, before packed audiences in Prague’s T-Mobile Arena, appearing alongside Paul van Dyk, No. 1 DJ in the world rankings, and other top artists. He also headlined at open-air festivals, including the Berlin Loveparade with its 1.3 million participants, Energy and Streetparade in Zurich, SpaceParade Slovakia, Creamfields in Poland, and in the Czech Republic: the Summer of Love, Time Warp in Prague, Machac Open Air Beach Festival and other events.

In 2005 Michael Burian received a string of awards for his achievements including a second Czech Dance Award for “Best National DJ of the Year”. His radio programme „Dance EXXtravaganza“ on the largest Czech station, Radio Evropa 2, brought him more dance accolades and he got an award in the „Best Event“ category for his Visage parties during his residency at the legendary Club Roxy in Prague. He also toured India, Central America and Europe and embarked on a big tour of eastern Europe with international mega star Tiesto.
Michael Burian’s sell-out international appearances and the events held in Prague’s T-Mobile arena, attended by over 40,000 people, brought him to the attention of the music scene. In 2005 he played increasingly at international events and produced an EP featuring the „Praha“, „River“ and „Metro“ tracks for the Circle Music label in Munich; the EP received the highest possible rating in the German music magazine Raveline. A video accompanying the release of „Praha“ was broadcast on the Czech music channel Ocko-TV, Viva Poland, the Czech Prima-TV, MTV India, RTL-Luxemburg and MTV South America.
In the same year Michael Burian added two new series of parties to his residency. His „Bohemian Night“ in Prague’s most celebrated club, Duplex, was soon an unmissable fixture on the nightclub circuit and at the legendary Roxy he started hosting his „ZEN“ nights.

2004 heralded a new chapter in the career of Michael Burian. Taking up a residency as DJ in Prague’s Roxy, he launched his series of Visage parties. Visage was so popular that he repeated the format at other clubs, among them the Fabric in Ostrava and the famous Club Capitol, New Delhi in India. He also played at the Loveparade in Mexico City in front of a crowd of 1 000,000.

In 2003 Michael Burian brought out his „Tender Young Flesh“ mix, an album distributed worldwide on the Intergroove label. The German division of Universal Music included his „Hotmale“ track on a compilation release. 2003 was also the first year that he was invited by the Czech Academy of Popular Music to be a member of the jury selecting the winners of the Czech Andel Music Awards, a position he held for a number of years. An Andel in the Czech Republic is the equivalent of a German Echo or a Grammy in the US.

Michael Burian was on the international ascendant throughout 2002, appearing before 55,000 people at the Creamfields festival in England, the largest of its kind in the world. His sets, packed with energy and passion, secured him advance billing at Creamfields for a number of years. He also appeared in the Amnesia nightclub for Cream Ibiza.

He has performed under his birth name since 2001. That year he picked up his first DJ of the Year title at the Czech Dance Music Awards and was soon being booked for all the big events across the country, but his reputation was already extending beyond the borders of the Czech Republic. He appeared at seminal events in England, Germany, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.

Michael Burian’s career in music began at the tender age of 15, when he got the dance floor shaking at a school party. This was his moment of realisation that electronic music would play a major role in his life. He played his first gigs under the name Electromajk, organised and promoted his own events and produced successful CD mixes. These included among others the tracks “Nextera Evolution Beat” and „Trancing“, rated by Tripmag magazine as one of the most successful CDs.
